Movie Theater Party!

Introducing our new home addition, our movie theater! This space used to be our attic. We tore down that whole side of the house and built this addition for our home theater. Our kiddo wanted to celebrate his birthday this year in the new space with a few of his close friends. So I got to work on some easy and fun party ideas to make the space a fun place for the kids to hang out on his big day.

Here’s a peek into the new space! I wanted this addition to still flow with the rest of my home. It’s a pretty, light-filled room when we aren’t using it for movie-watching. But when we want to watch a movie, the shutters and blackout curtains close completely revealing a totally dark room at any time of the day.

I didn’t think I’d like the giant movie theater chairs but all the little gadgets and rumble tech won me over. We purchased these from 4seating and can’t say enough good things about them. I don’t want to watch movies in an actual theater anymore lol! I wanted the coziest space possible so I went straight to Pottery Barn for the most wonderful throws you can find. I highly suggest splurging on their soft blankets for any lounging space in your home. Now, onto the party details…

The Ticket Booth

I built this ticket booth out of cardboard and red backdrop paper. A little tape, hot glue, and this installation went up in under an hour. I loved that the top piece could fit over the doorway. That was a really easy way to mount a faux awning. The kids loved pretending that there was an actual ticket booth where they could deposit their tickets from their invitations.

The Invitations

I designed these in Canva and hand-cut all the little pieces when my Cricut stopped working. I made sure to add tickets for each of his friends and some fun extra details like the 3D glasses and paper popcorn.

The Popcorn Bar

I was inspired by this red popcorn maker I found on Amazon. We use it all the time for movie night. The kiddos loved this popcorn presentation idea. I had extra red backdrop paper from the ticket booth project. I simply wrapped some cardboard boxes in the paper and added these scoops. I designed the labels in two pieces in Canva and cut them in my Cricut for a professional finish. The striped popcorn containers are also from amazon.

Candy Bar

And no movie theater is complete without a candy bar! The kiddos of course loved this part the most. Everything fit into these personal trays to keep the mess contained.

Even more sugar!

For dessert he requested cupcakes. I made these caramel popcorn-topped vanilla cupcakes to match using a basic vanilla cupcake recipe (you can use box cake) and my favorite buttercream. Happy Birthday to my little one!
