Irish Soda Bread Recipe
This recipe for traditional Irish Soda Bread is delicious and easy! There is no wait time and just a few minutes of kneading. Pop it in the oven and give it a nice long bake for a solid loaf. Thinly slice your loaf and serve heavily buttered. It is the perfect bread for your St. Patrick’s Day feast! I highly suggest serving it alongside this delicious Guinness And Beef Stew!
Irish Soda Bread
Makes: 1 Loaf
Ingredients:
2 Cups Buttermilk
3 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
1 Tbl Sugar
1 Tbl Salt
1 Tsp Baking Soda
3/4 Tsp Baking Powder
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375F
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all the dry ingredients with a spoon.
- Pour in the buttermilk and mix together with hands until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for an additional few minutes.
- Loosely form the dough into a round disc and place it on a heavily buttered baking sheet.
- With a sharp knife, score a deep “+” into the top of the dough.
- Bake for about 60 minutes. Tap the top of the loaf with your fingernail, if it is hard on the top and the loaf has a hollow sound to it, it’s done. You don’t want it to be soft as it won’t have baked through.
- Let the loaf cool for a bit before slicing it into thin slices.
