Dragons Love Tacos Party!
A Dragons Love Taco’s Party for little Domenic’s 7th Bday!
This year, my little boy requested a Dragons Love Tacos themed birthday party. Inspired by one of his favorite books of all time! It is the cutest book and if you haven’t yet, you must read it not just for your kiddo but for yourself. It’s full of fun humor for all of us! Children’s books are always so full of fun art and this series is not the exception. I had plenty of inspiration to work with. Some of these ideas are so simple that you can implement them for a just-for-fun Taco Tuesday night at home with your family! You can see his party from last year here!
The Invitations
I went all out here and hand-cut little taco elements for a custom fold-out invitation set. I wanted to use ALL the colors in the book so I opted for several sets of envelopes in different colors to complete the total swatch. You can find a few of these clipart elements here. And for the liner, I simply took a picture of the book cover with my DSLR and printed it. I get my envelopes from Cards & Pockets. I love their Euro Flap line for all of my invitation projects.
Set The Table
I started with a few yards of this gorgeous mustard fabric and created a tablecloth by simply cutting it to size. I had a backdrop printed with another digital image I took of one of the book pages featuring a fun spattering of tacos. Each table setting got its own mini taco piñata to complete the look!
The Birthday Boy!
My son sporting his official Dragons Love Tacos shirt. I had to do some hunting for it and finally found it used on threadUP consignment!
Delicious Treats & Eats
My wonderful new friend, Krista, of Little Blessings Bakery, made these adorable taco cookies! There were too many treats to choose from when thinking of taco related goodies. So I went with a cake, cookies, and Choco Tacos. What I love about going with a different dessert route, is that you can easily double treats as take-home gifts as well!
Continuing with the book theme, I made a “Totally Mild Salsa Bar” station. One of my favorite DIY tricks, I designed the bar sign in photoshop, sent myself the image, and used a mini projector to enlarge and trace onto a piece of wood. For the jars, I found these perfect and FREE labels on U Ready, Teddy!
Custom Take-Homes
We filled these adorable taco piñatas with candy for take-home gifts and made individual dragon tails out of felt for each of his guests. This was a really easy project we could do together with scissors, a bit of imagination, and Mom-only glue gun skills.
Displaying Tacos has never been so posh using an acrylic tray and some charcuterie arranging skills…
I had a lot of peppers leftover, so I used them in the centerpiece for some fun and funky color. To add non-stemmed elements to your floral designs, try sticking your pieces on wooden skewers and cut them to size like you would a stem!
You can attach the tails using any sort of clip or safety pin but I just clipped them to his pants with the suspenders!
