What Does The Fox Say Birthday Party!

My little boy just turned six years old this week and for his birthday party, he requested… A “What Does The Fox Say” themed boy bash.  For those of you who do not know the 2013 Ylvis youtube sensation, check it out here and prepare for the lyrics to be stuck in your head for eternity.  If you know it well, AKA you are a Mom of a youtube loving kid, please enjoy my party humor 😛

One of the biggest questions people ask me is where do I start when styling a party theme?  And that’s easy… The stationery.  It’s the perfect place to start gathering thoughts, art, color themes, and fonts.  It also makes sense to start with the stationery so you can send out those invites early!

Starting with the geometric, watercolor, orange fox art, I decided to stick to that one color and design the rest of the party in a modern black and white color palette.  The lyrics took up another large part of the design starting with the envelope liner and also adding to the invitation with the location of “somewhere deep in the woods”.This was a really simple table design starting with a paper backdrop, I added black sharpie triangles freehand to mimic the look of wallpaper.  A modern white table and chairs topped with deep rimmed white plates, black flatware, striped napkins, and personalized escort card style menus.  The table runner is a set of 4 placemats simply overlapping each other to create one long runner to perfectly custom fit the smaller table. My wonderful friend Angie at Pink Apron Confections made these adorable cookies to go along with the theme, aren’t they the cutest?  My adult humor goes straight over my kiddo’s head 😉 (thankfully), but it gives the parents in attendance a little giggle!  I love this letterboard and use it repeatedly; you can find it here!

I ordered costumes off amazon to go along with the song lyrics for each of the boys and built a rolling rack for presentation.  This was a really easy project using cheap PVC pipe, black spray paint, and wheels! All the fun is in the tiny details!  The fox wax seal was one of my favorite pieces.  Desserts!  My little guy LOVES breakfast food and of course cake.  So all of his treats surrounding the cake are breakfast related.  Special thanks to Amalfi Decor for sending me this perfect black cake stand!!  And another special thanks to my friends over at Z Create for this custom cake topper and tale!  From the song:  “Hatee” Hotcakes, “Blub” Berries, “Wa-Pow” Waffles, “Dingeringeding” Ding Dongs, and finally the cake is “Tchoffo” Chocolate Cake. Foxy eared ding dong and vanilla milk shakes, yummm!!! You can get this cute piñata here!
