Homemade Ice Cream Recipe

This recipe is super easy in an ice cream maker! I use it as the base for all my flavors, not just this Strawberry rendition.  My husband LOVES strawberry ice cream and since I’m in Valentine’s day mode already, I’ve been creating in all pink; Perfect timing for a strawberry flavored treat. Follow this recipe and add your own flavor of choice with these tips!

2 cups whole milk
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt

For strawberry: Mashup 2-3 cups of fresh strawberries and pour into ice cream maker. The more strawberries you mash up, the stronger that strawberry flavor will be.

TIP: Some items, like Oreos or things that get mushy, should be added to the mixture AFTER the churning process right before you freeze.

I run my KitchenAid ice cream attachment for about 20 minutes on the lowest speed and then freeze in a container overnight. I LOVE Tovolo containers, they keeps the ice cream nice and soft! For this look, I used a bread pan so I could present a decorated dish 😉 I did not use any food coloring in this recipe but a few drops will get that vibrant pink like the store bought.

I simply mash all my toppings or fruit ingredients with my hands. Frozen fruit gets rock hard so it’s a good idea to really mash it up so you won’t scoop into hard bricks after the freezing process.  Frozen berries and rose petals are really pretty on top!
