Personal Heart Shaped Pizzas

These cute heart-shaped pizzas are super fun to make and share with your favorite Valentines! I like to get really fancy and add all the gourmet toppings to mine so I’m just sharing my favorite dough recipe and you can add your own toppings! For the first pizza (my favorite), I added burrata and rainbow cherry tomatoes. You could also add a balsamic glaze, pesto, or fresh basil for a caprese edition. And for the second pizza, I added baked mushrooms, fresh arugula, and parmesan. Get even more fancy and make your own pizza box with a sharpie and some creativity! Here’s where I got the pizza box blanks: pizza boxes.

Homemade Slow-Rise Pizza Dough

Makes: 4 personal pizzas

Ingredients:

1 3/4 Cup Warm Water
2 1/4 Tsp Active Dry Yeast (1 Packet)
2 Tbl Olive Oil
4 Cups OO Flour
2 Tsp Salt

Instructions:

  1. In a measuring cup, add the warm water (between 105-110F). Sprinkle the yeast on top, give it a quick stir to incorporate and let sit until yeast shows signs that it’s active.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the flour and salt.
  3. When the yeast is active and bubbly, (up to 10 minutes), pour it over the flour along with the olive oil and mix with your hands until incorporated.
  4. Knead the dough within the bowl for an additional 20-30 seconds until it becomes a sticky dough.
  5. Leave the dough in the bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 2 hours in a warm spot.
  6. You can skip this step, but at this point, it is best to refrigerate the dough covered in plastic wrap for 3-5 days for more flavor.
  7. Punch down the dough. Using a pastry knife, divide the dough into 4 parts, place them into separate bowls, cover and let rise at room temperature for 2 hours.
  8. Pre-heat the oven to 425F. If you are using a pizza stone, be sure to preheat the pizza stone at this time as well.
  9. Shape one dough at a time into 8-10″ hearts. TIP: You can add your baked ingredients now or blind-bake the crust first for 10 minutes to get a crispier crust.
  10. Bake each pizza for a total of 15-18 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. Add any final unbaked toppings and serve warm!
