Monster Mash Picnic
Ghosts and ghouls! Welcome again to the spooky season! It’s still hot here in coastal Florida but I’m ready to start my Halloween celebrations. The whole house is spookified and my fall wardrobe is slowly coming out of storage. Last year I made this robe out of a blanket I found at TJ Maxx and it’s one of my favorite pieces. I throw it over a black bathing suit and it’s the most fun beach cover-up ever. I call it the Ghouly Garb. It goes extra well with my Bonjour Fete pumpkin picnic basket so of course I had to put together a monster mash picnic.
Appetizer Pumpkin Boards
I love these appetizer trays that double as a plate when needed! To make this cute pumpkin cheeseball, I used plastic wrap and a skewer to shape it before refrigerating. Here is the recipe:
Mini Pumpkin Cheeseballs:
Makes 4 Pumpkins
- 16 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups freshly shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 3 green onion stems, finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- pinch of salt and pepper
- sage leaves for the pumpkin garnish
- cinnamon sticks for the pumpkin stems
In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients well with a spatula. Divide into 4 parts and wrap individually with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 30 minutes before shaping into pumpkins with the side of a skewer or toothpick.
Picnic Panache
This whole collection including the umbrella, picnic table, and oversized beach towel is from Business & Pleasure! I always like to remind everyone to pack their pretty picnics responsibly when heading to the beach and use reusable plastics, NO BREAKABLE GLASS. I love these plastic wine glasses and melamine plates from Target. Shoutout to my friends at Solino Home for sending me the adorable pumpkin linens. I use them every year! Yay for wonderful internet friends!
Monster Sammies
A crowd favorite! Pack a few staple monster creation pieces like sandwich pickles for tongues, cheese slices for teeth, and olives for eyes, and let everyone create their own monster sandwich. My family loves to get competitive with this!
Spooky Picnic Desserts
Packing desserts for picnics, especially on the beach can be difficult because many are messy. I opted for these cute mummy hand pies and monster eyeball sugar cookies. I kept it simple with the hand pies and used refrigerated pie crust and canned cherry pie filling. The cookie recipe can be found here. I split the dough into 3 sections and used one drop of purple, green, and orange gel food coloring to get these vibrant colors. I then added candy eyeballs to the tops of the cookies as they were cooling and still soft.
