Easy Marzipan

This recipe is what I use to create cute shapes, creatures, fruits, and vegetables for many of my gingerbread house designs and cupcake toppers. I love it because it’s so easy to handle, color, and play with. Bonus, it tastes wonderfully almond. If you love marzipan, give it a try, especially if you aren’t very fond of other sugary molding doughs like fondant, molding chocolate, or gum paste.

Marizpan Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 2 tbsp water

Directions

  1. Combine the ingredients in a food processor just until a dough forms. You can add food coloring with the ingredients if you are doing just one color, or add colors after the dough is formed in divided sections.
  2. Roll the dough into a log and wrap it in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for one hour.
  3. To shape, you can use the same techniques as playdough or fondant. If it gets sticky, use a little bit of cornstarch on the surface.
  4. Let your shapes dry for 24 hours at room temperature before moving them.
