Garlic Pesto Swirl Bread Recipe
This Garlic Pesto Swirl Bread is like one giant garlic knot! It’s as delicious and it is tasty! I also love this basic dough recipe for all my crusty dough creation bases. This dough can be made into a light and fluffy loaf by giving it a 2nd rise in a loaf pan. Or make cute garlic knots with this recipe by dividing it into little singles! The possibilities are endless and I highly encourage you to experiment! For this post, I will teach you how to make this gorgeous swirl loaf…
Ingredients:
The Dough:
2 1/2 -2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/4 teaspoons or 1 packet active dry yeast
1 1/4 cup warm milk 1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
Garlic Pesto:
2 Cups Fresh Basil Leaves
1/2 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
3 Cloves Garlic
1/2 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
3 Cloves Garlic
1/3 Cup Pine Nuts
1/3 Cup Olive Oil
Salt & Pepper To Taste
Instructions:
- Warm the milk in the microwave for about 40 seconds. The milk should be warm, not hot as it will kill the yeast.
- Add the sugar and yeast to the warm milk and stir together. Set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, stir together the 2 1/2 cups flour and salt.
- When the yeast shows signs that it’s active, pour it over the flour and mix together with a spatula until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add another 1/4 cup flour a little at a time until smooth. Shape with your hands into a loose ball, cover bowl with a tea towel and let rise undisturbed for 1 hour in a warm spot.
- In a food processor, add all the garlic pesto ingredients and process on high for about 15 seconds. Set aside.
- Punch down dough and roll out into a rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread the garlic pesto over the dough in an even layer leaving about a 1/2 inch around all the sides.
- Starting with a long side, roll the dough into a cylinder. Cut the dough into two long pieces with a sharp knife. Pinch the strands together at the top and carefully twist them together. Turn the top and bottom into itself creating an S shape and transfer to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
- Bake at 350F for 30-35 minutes.
