The Annual Pie Decorating Party!

Every year, I host a pie decorating party in my home.  It’s one of my favorite parties of the year because I love baking and decorating pies!  You can see last year’s pie party in the January 2019 Mingle Magazine issue!  Or on the blog here.

For this year’s theme, I chose this black plaid fabric and turned it into a tablecloth which anchored the overall look of the party.  I get incredible light in my front foyer but I’ve never thought of setting up a party near the front door before.  I thought I’d give it a go and I love the way the light and large space look with the table set up!  A good reminder to look at all the different spaces in your home and not just your dining table.  We started here, eating a delicious and adorable meat pie dinner before heading to the kitchen to decorate pies.  I made the meat pies ahead of time and topped them with decorated pie lids to keep the heat in and ready to serve.

Aren’t they adorable?  Super easy to make too!  I lined a large muffin pan with pie crust and added my meat pie filler of mashed potatoes, ground beef, and cheese.  I baked that first while making the little lids separately on a cookie sheet.  The lids only needed to be baked for about 10 minutes to get sturdy and I just added them as removable lids to the tops! I also had sour cream and other toppings available for garnish…For drinks, I served mini hot chocolate & kalua shots topped with marshmallows served in mini moscow mules! And muddled fig moscow mules. The table greenery is a mix of greens, white roses, figs, and apples!  I don’t attach my garland together as a single piece.  Instead, I set the table first and then add the stems and fruit around my settings and glasses so it fits perfectly with all the little pieces. To the kitchen we go!  I have a passion for decorating pies so naturally, I have a ton of little gadgets and pie cutters.  My friends love my tips and tricks and using all the little fun pie toys.  They all went home with their own decorated pies ready to bake.  And here are my creations!
